How to Brew a Decaf Latte That Actually Wakes Your Soul Up at Home

WHAT YOU NEED

• 15g of Urban Brew decaf roast whole beans: freshly ground to fine, powdery perfection

• 150ml of your favourite milk: whether you are team full cream or deeply committed to oat

• A home espresso machine and bean grinder: because you're the master barista in your kitchen!

• Optional: A tiny pinch of raw sugar if you need a sweet cheat code to start the day

STEP-BY-STEP

1. Grind your decaf coffee beans fresh to a fine consistency right before brewing to lock in the absolute peak aroma.

2. Lock your freshly ground dose into your espresso machine and extract it as a short shot – about 40ml of rich, dark liquid gold - straight into a glass.

3. Watch that beautiful crema pour out and resist the urge drink it before the milk gets involved.

4. Froth your 150ml of milk until it is warm and velvety, keeping the foam layer thin and silky for that proper latte texture.

5. Pour the textured milk gently over your fresh espresso shot, letting it swirl together to deliver a proper hit of smooth flavour.

Decaffeinated With Mountain Water, Not Solvents


We take the caffeine out using pure water rather than chemical solvents, which is why the flavour survives the process intact. You are left with roughly 2 to 5mg of caffeine per cup, compared with around 120mg in regular coffee ☕


These beans enjoy a slightly finer grind than your standard morning roast. For a home machine, dial to a fine grind, aim for 9 bars of pressure and run for 25 to 30 seconds for a thick crema. For a plunger, stick to a coarse grind. And descale your machine every 3 months to keep it happy.

Smooth, sweet and full of flavour, just without the caffeine kick. Expect a bright apple and citrus sparkle, followed by caramel and brown sugar sweetness, with a lingering dark chocolate finish.

For a perfect espresso extraction at home, start with a fine espresso grind and adjust to suit your machine. Decaf beans can extract a little faster than regular coffee, so you may find a slightly coarser grind helps you hit that smooth, balanced sweet spot.If your shot is running too quickly, go a little finer. If it’s taking its sweet time, go slightly coarser. Grind fresh just before brewing and you’ll get a cracking espresso, minus the caffeine kick.
