Last year we started creating videos on our YouTube channel called the Entre-pod-neur's Journey. My idea for these videos was to to give our customers a look behind the scenes and reveal the reality of owning and running a small business. We made a few episodes over the months... and then just like that, I realised it had been over a year since we created the last episode! I’m not sure what happened, I guess business just got hectic and I forgot to put time aside to make these - but it's back and I will try to make one of these at least every few months!
I tried to prepare for this episode by thinking about all the different things that has happened over the past year, which lead to me questioning my happiness. I started to think about whether I’m happy with my life in general and decided to google whether humans are meant to be happy. I came across an amazing article, written by Melissa Chu, which completely changed how I think about happiness.

I hope you get as much value out of it as I have! (if you look at the blog on a desktop computer there will be a pop up which says “Pardon the interruption” asking you to sign in. You don’t need to sign in and can just click the little “X” button in the top righthand corning. This pop up won’t appear on mobile...)
So rather than talking about what’s happened over the past year, I’ve decided to jump straight in and talk about where I’m at now. We do giveaway campaigns every month and recently have started filming videos to launch these campaigns. I’ve made a ton of videos but it still takes many takes to get it right. I usually start off with a run down with the eCommerce manager, Greg, and the video usually comes down to me saying “it’ll do” – after all, I’m not a professional actor!
I also hold monthly open book team meetings which I have talked about in previous episodes. Lately, there have been a lot of staff members wondering whether the handwritten notes that we include in every order are worth it. In this month’s meeting, I bring up one email from a customer that really stuck with me. She told us that our small gesture lifted her soul and she began to look at the positives rather than the negatives in her life. “the time you have taken to write this is worth your effort and time as you never know how much it will help some who needs it – like me”. This isn’t uncommon for us to receive feedback like this and really goes to show how much such a small gesture can mean to someone.
Sadly, I also announce that our coffee roaster, Sven, is leaving after nearly 5 years working with us. He was with us through the darkest time in my journey so far and stepped up and took on 4 roles. As a business owner, this is something you’re willing to do, but is something that I could never ask of an employee. He pulled us through this dark time and I will forever be grateful for him.
That's it for now! I'll try to stay on top of these episodes - if you have anything you'd like to see, please comment below!
