HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT ICED LATTE WITH YOUR COFFEE MACHINE
Summer is finally here. We’re forgetting what it’s like to own a jumper, we’re restocking our SPF weekly, and lil’ sprinkles of sand are surprising us everywhere. Woo hoo! And so, if you’re looking for our ultimate flavour for summer, look no further than this handy article.
In this go-to guide, we break down all the info you need about the elusive iced latte. (Also, sidebar: ice lattes aren’t strictly a summer thing. You do you!)
So, read on for all the good stuff, plus our easy-as guide to nailing an icy version of the humble coffee pod. Brrr!
WHAT AN ICED LATTE IS AND WHAT IT ISN’T
Alright, so let’s clear this up once and for all. When you go to a fancy café, you might notice the difference between an iced coffee and an iced latte. Typically, an iced coffee is a milkshake/frappé concoction with syrups, scoops of ice-cream and whipped cream. Delish, amazing… but definitely not an iced latte.
We get this is confusing, people!
So basically, an iced latte is just your regular latte over ice. You want your coffee, you want your coffee with milk, and you want your coffee with milk and over ice. Genius. If you ask us, we’re all about a homemade iced latte situation, minus the long line, too-cool-for-school baristas and tempting freshly-baked muffins. So, if you’re craving a simple, tasty brew but it’s boiling outside, save your syrups and ice-cream for another day and get your mitts around an iced latte.
IT’S ACTUALLY SO EASY
Some people like to complicate things with all the bells and whistles – we’re looking at you, rhymes-with-Nah-Lucks. To make (and perfect) an iced latte, you don’t need 85 different types of sprinkles, syrups, sugars and organic yak milk that’s freshly squeezed under a full moon. Nope. You don’t need none of that.
We want to tell you that making an iced latte is so easy because you’ve probably been missing out on it for years. Decades. Maybe even centuries!
THE ONLY (EXTRA) THING YOU NEED TO DO
Aside from your Nespresso® machine, our pods (obviously) and your milk of choice, the only extra thing you really need to make the perfect iced latte is ice. Yes… we know. We see you take a pause; we hear the crickets in the background. You don’t need a short course from TAFE to make this delicious beverage: you just need to load up your freezer with some good ol’ fashion ice.
If you have one of those boujee ice makers, congrats. I’m very jealous of you. If you don’t and you don’t have some ice trays, go get ‘em. That’s all you need. Why not even go get some fun shapes to really kick things up a notch?
HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT ICED LATTE
Alright, here’s all you need to do:
- If you’re adding sugar, this is the time to add your sweetener of choice to the bottom of your glass. I turn the coffee machine on and add the sugar while it’s warming up to save a bit of time.
- Extract your pod into your fave double-walled glass. We recommend using anything that’s insulated or designed for iced beverages. (FYI: use the short shot, folks!)
- Grab your ice tray and plonk your ice cubes into your glass. Be careful here to avoid spillage.
- Top up with your milk of choice and whoa, whoa – what? You have your very own instant iced latte.
That’s it. BOOM. If you want a hot top, I really love our Intensity 12s for an iced latte - this is especially if you like your latte extra milky. The 12s and up are really designed to handle heaps of milk.
Want more coffee? Yeah, you do. Just add a second pod into your glass before adding your ice and milk. It really is as simple as that.
Also, if you’re still here and you want to make a latte Nespresso® would even be jealous of, why not brew up a big batch of the coffee you know and love (from us, of course), let it cool, and fill your ice cube trays with your cooled coffee. Then, once they've set, fill your glass with your coffee cubes and add milk. MIND. BLOWN.
Now, go and enjoy sipping on iced lattes all summer long. I approve!
